Fantasy sports not "gambling" after key New York ruling

Two separate Court actions in New York and New Jersey over the last week have demonstrated the highs and lows for fantasy sports operators seeking a commercial foothold in the lucrative United States market whilst skirting around the fringes of tight sports gambling regulations.

Firstly a ruling this week from New York's highest Court will allow, despite a scathing dissent, fantasy sports organisations such as DraftKings and FanDuel to operate there, overturning a previous ruling defining them as gambling ventures under the State's Constitution.

However, days later, FanDuel has been served with a class action in neighbouring New Jersey, accusing them of illegally refusing to return customers' unused account money, wanting them to wager those funds instead.
