River Plate liable for fan conduct in stadium "surroundings"

A 2018 incident that caused questions to be asked as to whether clubs are strictly liable for the behaviour of their fans and to what extent was answered affirmatively in a long-awaited Award recently published by the Court of Arbitration for Sport ('CAS').

The decision related to an incident occurring before the Copa Libertadores final between Club Atlético River Plate ('River') and Club Atlético Boca Juniors ('Boca') in November 2018.
